Contact tracing is the identification and follow-up of persons who may have come into contact with an infected person. It’s a crucial component of epidemiological investigation and active surveillance and has three basic elements:
Contact identification;
Contact listing; and
Contact follow-up.
The purpose of contact tracing is to contain the outbreak by interrupting the transmission cycle, and its objectives are:
1. To timeously identify, trace and monitor contacts of COVID-19.
2. To detect and monitor all persons at risk of contracting COVID-19
3. To prevent spread in the exposed contacts
