KWAZULU-NATAL TRAINING: EARTHING AND BONDING AND COC COURSES COMING UP IN DURBAN
Two important courses for KwaZulu-Natal electrical contractors will be presented at the ECA’s Durban offices in April. First a Certificate of Compliance course on 5 April; and an Earthing and Bonding course on 11 and 12 April. The comprehensive one-day CoC course is for electricians who have passed the trade test and want to apply for registration as a Registered Person with the DOL; and for electricians who already have a Wireman’s License, but who would like to do a refresher course to keep up with DoL’s requirements. The Earthing and Bonding course is for registered electrical contractors who want to deliver a comprehensive service, and electricians who want to improve their knowledge and understanding of earthing and bonding.
The CoC course covers: Fault-finding; details of installation (matrix): Annexure 1 CoC (1 May 2009); Annex 1 / CoC & Test report (ECA (SA); Electrical Installation Regulations; Electrical Machinery Regulations 2011: OHS Act: Earth leakage protection (history of earth leakage) – updated version; Calculation of hourly tariffs; S/S main meter room (point of supply); Example to calculate PSC, Earth continuity conductors – bonding; Example of layout of domestic circuitry; DB layout; Table 7,3 voltage transformers (SELV); guide for estimated year of installation. The cost of the CoC course is R1 450 for members and R2 110 for non-members (lunch and course material included).
Earthing and bonding
The Earthing and bonding course is held over two days from 08h00 to 18h00 daily and covers: Definitions; the law; standards; consumer’s earth terminal; earthing; bonding; earthing systems; testing and test equipment; earthing of PV installations; earthing of lightning masts; earthing of alternate supplies; good and bad practices; the importance of earthing in specialised environments; and sample test reports. The cost of the course is R2 100 (ECA members) and R2 600.00 (non-members), which includes lunch and course notes.
