ECA LOSES A FRIEND – REST IN PEACE MEL WILMANS

MEL WILMANS

It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that the ECA(SA) announces the untimely passing of Mel Wilmans from coronavirus on 15 July 2021. Mel was a registered Master Installation Electrician, Electrical Engineer and Hazardous Location Consultant and the owner of Electrical Accredited Inspection Body Southern Africa (EAIBSA). His motto was to always ‘lead by example’ and he practised what he preached – he was passionate about compliance in the electrical industry and willingly shared his extensive knowledge gained over 30 years in the industry.

As a well-respected friend of the ECA, Mel presented MIE Unit Standards courses to students who, after attending his courses, would admit to getting a ‘wake-up call’ on how little they actually knew about the terminology in the Wiring Code and how to apply those in practice. Mel often said that he enjoyed giving back to the new and upcoming MIEs and he dedicated himself to “making the industry honourable again”.

Our deep and heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Liza, and children Juan and Meliza, as well as his many colleagues. We wish them courage in this very sad time.
