ANYONE FOR A ROUND OF GOLF?
One of the secrets of success is being able to balance work and play. And when the people in the electrical industry play, it’s usually on a golf course. Enjoying a round of golf with fellow contractors, clients and colleagues is an excellent way to network and meet new people in the electrical industry.
The ECA(SA) has nine golf days for members every year – in Cape Town, East London, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg – and all the proceeds of these golf days go to charity. So far this year, the ECA(SA) donated R150 000 to 12 charities and made thousands of people’s lives a little bit easier and hopefully, happier – all thanks to the generosity of our members and sponsors.
There are three golf days still to be played this year – the Port Elizabeth, Highveld Wits and National Office Golf Days.
First up is the Highveld Golf Day at Ebostse Golf Club in Benoni on 22 September, which will be played to a ‘fourball alliance’ format with two scores to count.
Built to US PGA specifications and currently ranked the 32nd best course by Golf Digest SA, Ebsotse is the only inland links course in South Africa. The greens and fairways are in superb condition and Ebotse is touted as a must-play course that should be on every golfer’s bucket list.
The links course has seven holes on the water and, according to a review on the Ebotse website, “the challenges of a links golf course are the wide, uneven fairways, the challenging rough, pot bunkers and frequently windy conditions”.
Prices include tea/coffee and confectionary on arrival; green fees; halfway house grab ’n go lunch; drinks at sponsored holes and at lunch; and the prize-giving braai.
There are a few sponsorships left at R4 000 per fourball and R4 000 per hole. For more information, to book a fourball or sponsor a hole, contact, contact Zinhle at email@example.com
PORT ELIZABETH GOLF CLUB
The gracious Port Elizabeth Golf Club is the venue for the ECA(SA) East/South Cape branch’s charity golf day on Thursday, 19 October.
Having been in existence for 127 years, the Port Elizabeth Golf Club is the second oldest club in South Africa. Conveniently situated in the heart of the city, the club is steeped in tradition and offers an outstanding golf course, which is known to locals as ‘The Hill’. The length of the course is 6 117 m with 18 holes / Par 72.
Sponsorships are available at R2 000 per fourball and R1 000 per hole.
Lucas Bowles, Regional Director for the East/South Cape region, says, “We’re expecting a record entry this year. Despite the below average rainfall, the course and greens are in excellent condition and we are looking forward to a fun-filled day of relaxation, seeing old friends and, hopefully, sinking a few long putts.”

EYE OF AFRICA
The last golf day of the year is the traditional ECA(SA) National Charity Golf Day. This year’s event will take place on 22 November at the highly-acclaimed Eye of Africa, which hosted the 2017 PGA Championship earlier this year.
Set in stunning natural surrounds, this par 72 championship course is over 6 895 metres in length and is the 14th golf course designed by the legendary golfer, Greg Norman. The Eye of Africa is, according to the website, “set up to really challenge every golfer on the course and offer a true championship experience”.
The ECA(SA) National golf day will take the format of fourball alliance with two scores to count so inexperienced golfers can join in the fun.
There are still sponsorships open for this prestigious event and these are going at R4 000 per fourball and R4 000 per hole. Prices include tea/coffee and confectionary on arrival; green fees; halfway house grab ’n go lunch; drinks at sponsored holes and at lunch; and the prize-giving dinner.
