THE ECA(SA) SET TO LAUNCH ITS OWN ‘SA ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR’ MAGAZINE ON 16 NOVEMBER

THE ECA(SA) SET TO LAUNCH ITS OWN ‘SA ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR’ MAGAZINE ON 16 NOVEMBER – LIMITED EDITION PRINTED LAUNCH ISSUE TO BE REVEALED AT THE PRESIDENTIAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS

By Erika van Zyl, National Communications Manager

Not only will all the names of the top achievers in the electrical contracting industry be announced at the annual Presidential Excellence Awards on 16 November – the ECA(SA) will launch its own electronic magazine, SA Electrical Contractor and every guest will receive a special limited edition printed copy at the ‘big reveal’ at the awards banquet.

The online version of the magazine, which will go live simultaneously, can be read across all platforms: personal computers, tablets, phablets, Android phones and iPhones … and it will be  published six times a year.

The idea for the ECA(SA)’s in-house magazine came about when Mark Mfikoe, the National Director of the ECA(SA), returned from the European Association of Electrical Contractors (AIE) conference in Oslo, Norway, in October 2017. With the National Executive Committee’s nod of approval, he set the wheels in motion to establish a communications department at the ECA’s head office, with a mandate to set up two publications – a newsletter and a digital magazine,

On 20 June, the first issue of the newsletter – Wired – went live and, since then, on the first and third Tuesday of every month, Wired goes out to a database of around 5 000 subscribers.

Supported by advertising from our loyal Associate Members, the content in Wired is practical and helpful to electrical contractors – our membership and electricians across South Africa.

The launch of SA Electrical Contractor magazine will see South Africa take its place alongside a global community of electrical contractor associations. The ECAs in Europe have their own in-house magazines and the AIE’s website lists all these members’ magazines. Aside from all the European members, the website also lists the ‘Corresponding Members’ – electrical contractor associations in Australia, Asia, the United States and, significantly, our own ECA in South Africa.

SA Electrical Contractor is a magazine especially for the electrical contracting industry in South Africa. Future issues will feature articles by Mark Mfikoe, Stephen Khola (National Labour Relations and HR Director), the ECA(SA)’s regional directors and guest authors who are actively involved in the electrical industry. Product news from Associate Members will keep our readers up-to-date on what’s available and the industry news will keep them up-to-speed on what’s happening in their world.

The online magazine uses page-flip technology – and it’s easy to zoom in and out of articles and embedded links take the reader directly to advertisers’ websites. A click on an article on the magazine’s contents page takes the reader directly to that article – and the magazine is downloadable and printable.

The editorial content of SA Electrical Contractor – powered by the ECA(SA) – is for ECA(SA) members and non-members alike – and it’s free online.

What’s more, SA Electrical Contractor will feature alongside the ECA(SA)’s listing on the AIE’s website – with a click-through to our very own magazine – along with the magazines published by other ECA’s around the world.
