This is the last issue of Wired for 2025. The year is officially over for this publication. We look forward with excitement to 2026. One of the thorny issues contractors have raised is the fact that the public does not know where to verify whether or not they are dealing with a legitimate registered contractor. All attempts to get this information publicly made available by government have failed.
The Bargaining Council for the Electrical Contracting Industries put in a lot of work into putting together a database of all properly registered Electrical contractors. The Council recognised that it has this information and all that we really need to do is package it in a manner that would make it accessible to all stakeholders.
No one is allowed to do any electrical installation work unless they are registered per the requirements of clause 6 of the Electrical Installation Regulations. All electrical contractors with employees must register with the Council so as all their employees are in benefit in the quest to create decent work. All contractors registered with the Council must submit proof of registration with the Department of Employment and Labour. This gives us enough data to create a reliable database.
We will be launching the details early in 2026 and we will cover the whole country. All good contractors operating legitimately will be known to the public and their clients.
Happy holidays everyone.
