As the industry moves toward more internationally based standards, the SABS is progressively adopting more of the IEC 60364 series of standards. A few of these documents have already been adopted and are currently available for purchase.

We anticipate that the full adoption of the remaining IEC 60364 series will be complete by March 2026. This significant step will be the first into fully integrating the international specification into our national wiring code, which will substantially strengthen our technical position internationally.
Key Documents to Watch
Please keep an eye on the following key documents over the next few months:
- SANS 60364-7-712: The latest version of this IEC standard was released by the IEC earlier this month following an extended maintenance cycle. We expect this document to open for public comment soon and be formally adopted early next year. This new content will be integrated into our training sessions shortly thereafter.
- SANS 10142-1 ED3.3 (Wiring Code): The next edition of the national wiring code is currently in the committee draft phase, which is scheduled to conclude in December. If this process proceeds successfully, the document will be released for Public Comment and could be ready for publication as early as March 2026.
