THE CAPE TOWN TRAINING CENTRE IS BOOMING!

The Cape Town Training Centre has seen an upward trend continue into the third quarter of 2023. Accredited module training enrolments are on the increase and, from July to December accredited training will be discounted by a massive 70%. Preference will be given to those companies active in the electrical industry and that are registered with the NBCEI(SA). Formal module training is undertaken at the ECA’s Cape Town training centre and in recent months, there has been an influx of students enrolling at the training centre. The Cape Town regional office has been in the fortunate position to place over 45 unemployed apprentices with local companies to undergo a three-year artisan development apprenticeship.

Management training short courses

Management training short courses have been well attended in 2023 and the focus is on presenting relevant subject matter that members want and the industry needs. This training is presented at affordable prices and ECA members benefit from discounted prices.

The increased number of participants is also reflected in the training income for the financial year ending 31 July 2023. The Cape Town training centre achieved a notable surplus of over R1-million for the past financial year.

There is a huge demand for short courses and the ECA’s Andre Wagener presented a Solar PV and CoC completion course in May and, in July, George Senekal, presented a SANS 10142-1 refresher course to more than  70 electrical contractors.

ECA(SA)’s Cape Town office recently held a SANS 10142-1 refresher course to more than  70 electrical contractors.

My thanks must go to the ECA Cape team, including  Training Manager, George Senekal, who has extended his busy schedule to accommodate more training options, Thurston Duncan, the ECA President and Regional Chairman who gives up his valuable time to mark all the Trade Tests, and Michelle Digre, who is a vital part of the team, ensuring that registrations are processed and that payments happen. Gloria Manage is an important and reliable presence at the Cape Town offices, providing consistent, highly valuable information at reception, as is Fanele Liwani, George’s right hand man, who ensures that all resources are available and organised in the Training Centre.

We are encouraged and thankful for the support and participation from our members and the industry at large. The growth in attendance at management training courses has been phenomenal and I welcome members’ suggestions on what training they would like to see offered in Cape Town.
