Paarl was the idyllic setting for ECA’s Boland Branch meeting on the 19th September. The Paarl Bowling Club was filled to capacity with electrical contractors from the region, who got a complete update of Cape Town’s developments around training, apprenticeships and all things accreditation.
Regional Director, Darryl Whitaker, provided updates about ECA’s Training Centres and the importance of the recent Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) accreditation, and key issues around recent updates to the City of Cape Town’s residential Solar PV regulations.
Nicholas McDiarmid, National Communications Manager, introduced himself and invited discussion on useful content ideas, and the role communications must play in creating improved understanding, utilisation and compliance in the mind of the general public and also governing entities like the metros and smaller district municipalities. He also promised to work on his Afrikaans.
The meeting was then treated to Solar PV training, presented by Andre Wagenaar. Andre’s engaging style soon had everyone engaged, learning and debating. This very lively discussion brought everyone in, and learning benefited greatly with direct experiences giving content real-life relevance.
The atmosphere was exceptionally positive and confirmed again the incredible value of peer networking.
Attendees were given in-depth training in legal matter, standards, calculations, tools, system design, testing, and the all-important lightning and surge protection for PV.
