APPRENTICE AND ELCONOP 2 AND 3 TRAINING AT THE ECA IN PRETORIA IN 2023

The ECA’s Training Centre in Pretoria presents an ideal opportunity for anyone around Pretoria to help their employees, family members or friends to enrol students who want to study to become an Artisan-Electrician in a safe and familiar environment. People who don’t have an apprenticeship contract but would like to become an electrician can also enrol for the Modular courses and will be given guidance on the process.

Hein Dippel, who has been training apprentices for many years, presents apprenticeship and Elconop training courses at the centre, which is fully accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

Apprenticeship
Officially, an apprenticeship is a three-year training programme although it is possible to qualify in a shorter time. Qualification as electrician is subject to a contract with an electrician employer and successfully completing two four-week training sessions, some formal qualifications (N2), prescribed practical experience and passing the relevant trade tests. The requirement for ultimate qualification is a N2 certificate, with a minimum 40% in mathematics (not maths literacy), physical science, electrical trade theory, and industrial electronics or technical drawing.

The practical portion of the apprenticeship is a mentorship that involves working with site crews to get exposure to and familiar with the type of work, environment, tools, equipment, and practices of the career-life of a construction electrician.
