ECA(SA) CELEBRATES THE POWER OF WOMEN ON WOMEN’S DAY

It’s proven economic fact that when you empower women, you empower communities. It’s how it is. At the ECA(SA), we celebrate the sheer power women have as change-makers and community growers. All the women at the ECA(SA) show us is this in action every day, and we celebrate each and every one of you.

Angel Mkhomazi is one such inspiration that speaks for all women. Regional Training Manager, at ECA(SA)’s Meadowdale Training Centre, and a Master Installation Electrician (MIE) studying for the Advanced Diploma in TVET Teaching, Angie has a soft spot for the young women who train under her. She’s ‘been there, done that, got the t-shirt’ and understands the challenges they will face in an industry that often doesn’t cater for women.

“Women are now making their mark in this male-dominated industry … even though it’s still not easy for some men to digest,” says Angie. Hundreds of artisans have come under Angel’s wing over her nine years with ECA(SA), and she currently has 60 artisans under watchful eye.

Talk about skilled. And when you combine this with a passion to share and the desire to teach, you have the essence of the power of women. And this ties in with Angie’s favourite quote from Michelle Obama: “Success isn’t about how much money you make … it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”  This Women’s Day, ECA(SA) celebrates the very essence power, the power make a difference.
