AM Hengtong Africa Telecoms (Pty) Ltd (also known as AMHT), is a leading manufacturer of fibre optic cables in South Africa. Situated in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, AMHT specialises in providing innovative and customised solutions to meet the dynamic needs of the telecommunications market through its distribution channel of fibre distributors, ISPs, and fibre network operators across Africa.
AMHT was established in 2019 and is currently owned by Aberdare Cables Pty Ltd, both of which are subsidiaries of the Hengtong Group of Companies with its headquarters in China. AMHT and Aberdare Cables, have over 80 years of combined experience in the telecommunications and power cables industries and AMHT is widely recognised for its expertise in fibre optic cable manufacturing and its ODN range of accessories.

AMHT’s product portfolio includes, aerial cables, underground cables, FTTH cables (fibre-to-the-home) and specialised cables, designed and manufactured to customer specifications. Customers include SOEs, utilities, metros and municipalities, Telecom network operators, system integrators, distributors and contractors – and all products are available through a national distribution network.

R&D

One of AMHT’s key strengths is its investment in research and development. Hengtong has established three R&D centres globally and one is located in South Africa that focuses on developing new products tailored to meet the unique demands of African customers. This investment enables AMHT to provide cutting-edge technology that meets customer needs while also keeping prices affordable. The manufacturing facility in Kempton Park utilises state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment including fibre colouring, tubing, stranding and sheathing lines capable of efficient, top quality and continuous production ensuring quality products, competitive pricing, and excellent lead times.

Quality

The company’s on-site laboratory and test facility inspects all incoming raw materials and tests cables being manufactured at each stage of the manufacturing process. A final quality check, which includes OTDR, mechanical tests and visual inspection is conducted before delivery, to ensure that the latest specifications are met and complies with the customers’ requirements.
