The Electrical Contractors Association of South Africa (ECA(SA)) is set to host a groundbreaking Industry Think Tank focused on a critical and often overlooked aspect of electrical safety: installations in thatched roof structures.
Scheduled for 28 February 2025, this virtual forum will bring together leading experts to address the complex challenges surrounding electrical and solar installations in thatched buildings. The session aims to demystify widespread misconceptions and establish comprehensive guidelines that prioritize safety and regulatory compliance.
Key Focus Areas:
- Fire prevention strategies
- Surge protection and lightning safety
- Safe installation practices
- PV and battery installation in thatch environments
- Compliance with SANS regulations
The event will feature speakers from diverse backgrounds, including fire safety experts, experienced electricians, fire prevention representatives, specialized inspectors, and engineering professionals. Participants will explore the unique risks associated with electrical work in thatched structures and develop standardized best practices.
Following the session, the ECA(SA) National Technical Committee will conduct an in-depth investigation into existing code gaps, ultimately producing guidance documentation to enhance industry standards.
This initiative represents a significant step towards improving safety and professional standards in electrical installations across South Africa.
