What is more dangerous – alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC)?

In simple terms, Eskom supplies AC current.

A solar PV installation uses DC current.

DC current flows in one direction only, and AC current is bi-directional.

Both are dangerous.

This, says Anthony Schewitz, ECA Highveld Regional Director, is why the Electrical Installation Regulations in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) are quite clear on who may work on electrical installations.
